Pathway:

Surface and Form

For this piece I wanted to try and capture the idea of dreams as my key theme. From this starting point I investigated what I thought was significant imagery conjured up form the word dream, including things like clouds, night skies and just overall fantasy ideas. I then researched childhood stories and fairy tales. Children are more likely to dream because of the stories which are read to them before going to bed and their imagination is stronger and less restricted by reality. I really wanted to create something which is detailed and elegant but has a sense of weightlessness to it. I became extremely interested with nature and embroidery, especially techniques influenced by Paolo Sebastian. The colours I have used have a good reflection on my theme I feel, with the pastel blue acting as a neutral colour or resembling the sky with free-flowing cloud effect sleeves, enhanced with the bright colour pop of embroidery.
