My Component 1 Project explored the concept of ‘Masks’. With my investigations, I experimented with the design of masks, religion/cultures associated with them to explore the meaning behind each mask. Every piece of work was made with either water colour, pencil, acrylic paints or charcoal to emphasise an organic result that wouldn’t be reached with digital processes. My work was primarily inspired by Polina Bright and John Picacio.

The final outcome incorporated a lanscape design with a female in the focus, having fractions of her black and white opposing to their doll-like appearance. This manipulated design portrays the sadness breaking through the girl at the sight of a place that used to be a sanctuary for her, revealing the broken ‘mask’.
