A-Level Art, Year 2

The Union of Art and Music This project is my component 2, which I had chosen the theme of organized chaos, with the subcategory of Music and Rhythm painting. I chose this theme as I love abstract expressionist art, within which I can explore the use of different mediums and styles. Artist Melissa McCracken originally sparked my interest within music painting, she has a rare condition called synaesthesia which is a neurological condition that over stimulates the senses, meaning when she listens to music, she can see shapes and colours. This she expresses through abstract artwork which really shows the rhythm, movement and emotion of the songs. “Painting in oils and acrylics is a way to express and exhibit the beautiful colours that I see on a daily basis” - Melissa McCracken. Within my project I wanted to take this concept and apply it to a more interior design approach, creating pieces inspired by different genres of music which have the purpose of adding emotion and rhythm to a space.
