When deciding on my stimuli for this project, I was deeply moved and emotively driven by the great depression of the 1930s. The Great Depression is commonly used as an example of how intensely the global economy can decline. I was immediately inspired by this due to the fact that it was a period of protests and hunger marches — and unionism spread like wildfire — but many people suffered quietly, ashamed of their poverty. No matter what their situation, the Great Depression changed those in the generation that survived it. I had realised the struggle in which people faced and gathered responses to this period from survivors. They say that this generation do not understand how lucky they are. In response to this, I decided to only use materials in my household to create my final piece. This is so none of the fabric goes to waste and shows I am making the most of what I have.
