Visual Communication

This piece reflects on how we, the British nation, have chosen to deal with the initial outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic using social commentary. In some respect, it demonstrates how stubborn we can be at following guidelines. A mixture of fear, anxiety and in some cases resistance to the management and handling of this pandemic. Also, the speculation of how the virus began played a part in my concept, using a symbol of a bat and in particular the ideas that a collective noun for bats is called a cloud, allowing me to create a comparison between the collective noun and an atomic bomb explosion. I wanted the piece to portray a range of emotions and a nod to the scrutinization that the United Kingdom have faced from the rest of the world on the handling of the situation by the Government, creating I hope a powerful image that captures the magnitude of this event in our lives and history.
