Carol Haughton

CAPS, Year 2

I have been exploring the relationship between maths and art. To do this I have used plaster in geometric shapes to create the initial form. This has then been developed and inspired by lines and features within the surrounding environment, manmade and natural. To create these plaster casts I start with sculpting clay. As I do this the piece evolves and takes on a life of its own as it incorporates aspects of the clay that was not intended. I have also combined other elements to add richness and texture and further enhancing the journey the piece is on. Just as the environment has layers of weathering and changes to it.
I like my work to be aesthetically pleasing, to have balance and harmony. I feel that more recently it has contained an edge and has more tension that has probably been caused by recent events.
